The Department of Informatics is home to a thriving community of information technology and information systems scholars and practitioners.
About
Our department’s award-winning faculty leverages their industry experience to furnish students with enriching, leading-edge educational research experiences that explore how the use and design of information shapes and impacts our lives.
Housed within the Ying Wu College of Computing, our department is composed of two divisions: Information Systems and Information Technology. We offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that focus on the integration, design, deployment and management of computing and networking resources and services.
The data-intensive, highly synergistic faculty research, which is conducted alongside students at all levels, include data mining and location-based social applications, user experience research and smart health and medical informatics. Substantial funding from federal agencies such as NSF, NIH, DOE and the Institute of Museum and Library Services supports this work.
With a strong emphasis on technical application, our comprehensive curriculum educates a burgeoning generation of informaticians, eager to use emerging technologies to mange the world of tomorrow. We provide our students with the tools needed to become leaders in today’s demanding high-tech marketplace—and land jobs at major companies like Cisco Systems, Prudential, Bank of America and IBM.
