The current Director of the Ph.D. program will serve as the initial advisor for all Ph.D. students upon acceptance into the program. Students should plan to meet with the Ph.D. director at least once per semester. Upon the successful completion of the comprehensive examination, each student must choose one of the faculty members in the department to be their thesis advisor. It is highly recommended that students entering the program take courses with as many of the tenured and tenure-track faculty in the department as possible so that we can get to know each other. This will help tremendously when it comes time to choose an advisor. Once a thesis advisor has been chosen it is up to the student and that advisor to set up a regular schedule of meetings to ensure that the student is making progress towards the completion.
